The course will impart a generalized introduction of scientifc enterprise from imagination and abstract conceptualization to critical thinking and elements of quantitative reasoning. The first module titled Ideas and Attitudes will introduce students to a selection of philosophical principles and essential habits of mind that integrate to make science what it is. At the end of the first module, students will be able to develop heuristics for differentiating science from other critical enterprises. The second module titled Methods and Instruments will deal with the methodological and instrumental principles that unifies the scientific community in their practice. After completion of the course, students would acquire basic knowledge to reflect upon their own areas of scientific problems, critically analyze research problems and set realistic goals towards their solutions.
